As we move reluctantly into a period of uncertainty (let’s not mention the B word), where even largescale corporate companies face sale, closure, or restructuring, we worry also for small and medium-sized business. A talking point has been the recent high-profile news that Exeter-based airline Flybe (a company with 2,300 staff in the UK) is up for sale to a consortium led by Virgin Atlantic and Stobart Air. Whilst the company acknowledged that the most recent proposed offer per share was disappointingly low, it had to warn its shareholders that it will wind up the company if they do not back a sale. A worrying time for all those associated with Flybe who are in a period of limbo.
