Powers of Attorney
Powers of Attorney are legal documents whereby a person can give another person(s) the authority to make certain decisions on their behalf. On 1st October 2007, Lasting Powers of Attorneys (LPAs) were introduced to replace the old style Enduring Powers of Attorney (EPA). There are two types of LPAs:
- A Financial Decisions LPA, which gives your attorney(s) the authority to deal with your property and finances; and
- A Health and Care Decisions LPA, which allows your attorney(s) to make welfare and health care decisions on your behalf when you lack the mental capacity to do so yourself.
Whilst EPAs are still valid, they only relate to property and financial affairs decisions. Should you wish to give authority over your health and welfare, you will need to make an LPA. It is recommended that everyone should have a Power of Attorney to save your friends or family difficulties which would arise later on down the line, should you should lose capacity without having such a document in place.
Our specialist team of private client advisers can assist in a wide range of matters, including:
- Health and Care Decisions Lasting Power of Attorney

I would like to thank you for all of your efforts to get the purchase completed as quickly as you did. It was all very much appreciated. I know house moves are never very easy and I am sure that you face many complicated things to do in order to get it all done and we couldn’t have got it finished without you. Thank you very much indeed once again and I wish you every success in the future.
Portia Woodhouse – her professional help, support and ability to empathise with my family’s situation was exceptional. I would have no issue with recommending her.
My husband and I were first time buyers, we knew nothing about the process and were both finding the whole thing very stressful. Debbie made the whole process from start to finish easy and enjoyable. She was always available to answer any questions, listened to us, kept us informed all the way through and was professional and a pleasure to deal with. I cannot recommend Debbie highly enough.
We were introduced to Laura Clarke who also enabled a smooth transition of our business in what was a short timescale.
We’d just like to say a big ‘thank you’ for the help and advice which you’ve provided, which has helped us significantly through this process (as we’ve had no prior experience of the eviction process).
