ASHBURTON Cricket Club got their season off to a winning start this week in their first full game. In their first four fixtures there had been three wash-outs and one where Ashburton started strongly but were thwarted by the rain.
The Club has also started the season well off the pitch, tackling some major jobs around the ground, including the building of a brand new storage unit. This has only been possible with the generous support of local sponsors, with more than 50 businesses, ranging from individual tradesmen to major local employers like Glendinning and Grey Matter, sponsoring the club in recent years.
WBW Solicitors, who have loyally supported the club for several years now, have continued their support for 2021 and were delighted to see Ashburton make a positive start away at Plymouth this week. Catherine Causey of WBW Solicitors said:
“We’re delighted to extend our partnership with Ashburton Cricket Club and continue to help a club that’s at the heart of the community and caters for up to 70 youngsters on a Friday night at their colts sessions. It was brilliant to see them lift their first silverware when they won the Aaron Printers Cup in 2020 and we wish them well for 2021.”
Club Captain Ashley Berry said:
“A lot goes into running a cricket club – from keeping the ground and pavilion in good nick to providing the best possible environment for our younger players to train and play. Every year we seem to take another step forward and this wouldn’t be possible without the support of our sponsors like WBW Solicitors. We are so grateful for their continued support.”
