WBW Solicitors has a new face in its Bovey Tracey office – private client advisor Stephen Toft. Stephen, who has more than 30 years experience in the fields of wills, probate and estate planning, previously worked for WBW Solicitors in the firm’s Torquay office. He joined WBW in 2012 having worked within the local area for a number of years. It’s a busy team at WBW Solicitors office in Bovey, incorporating Stephen and conveyancer Rod Lewis, supported by a handful of administrative staff, and the approachable style of the office suits his own friendly manner. “I have never worked in an office so close to the community it serves,” said Stephen. “People come in off the street with something that needs to be dealt with, have a quick chat and are off somewhere else on their next errand.” “I have not been here long, but I am already learning who people are in the town.” “I am also hearing a lot about my predecessor Helen Goodwin and what a good job she did. I am keen to maintain the high standards she set.” Stephen trained specifically for private client work (with Lloyds Private Banking) and it is a decision he has never regretted. He has never missed advocacy work in a magistrates court, preferring to deal with people and their everyday problems. “My work is part of everyone’s lives at some stage and what I do is help clients through what can be a traumatic time for them and those close to them,” said Stephen. “Will writing is something lots of people put off because they think they are perfectly healthy and it can wait. When someone dies without making a will that can cause all sorts of problems for the family.” Stephen added. “The simplest way I can explain it is to say by making a will you ensure the people you want to benefit actually do. If you have kids, you need a will.” Probate is another area where Stephen hopes to help relatives pick up the pieces with the minimum of fuss. “Clients come in full of worries and concerns, often at a time of great distress, and what I try to do is hold their hand through the process,” said Stephen. Dealing with inheritance issues is another part of Stephen’s expertise, making sure the right provisions are made for beneficiaries. There isn’t much Stephen hasn’t seen during his career, but as part of the WBW team if he comes across something out of the ordinary there is always someone to get advice from. “One of the benefits of being part of a firm with a number of offices is there is always someone at the end of a phone to talk to over any unusual problem,” said Stephen. Stephen is a Senior Private Client Advisor with substantial experience in all areas of Private Client work specialising in matters relating to Wills and Probate.
