Here at WBW we value every one of our team members. Each member of staff has their own stories, motivations and reasons why they enjoy working for WBW.

So we’ve decided to post a series of questions and answers with a staff member from one of our 6 offices.

Today we talk to Anthony Fripp, Partner and Head of Commercial Property in our Exeter Office.

What made you decide to go into law?
I didn’t really know for certain what I wanted to do for a career and the thought of doing a law degree was interesting. I enjoyed the degree, so went on to do the post graduate year and enjoyed that, so ended up becoming a solicitor.  Most days I don’t regret that decision!

What’s special about the way WBW works?
We have a very collegiate attitude and approach within the Firm, with the ability to confer with colleagues with their own specialisms. Everyone I work with puts efficient, practical and approachable work at the centre of what they do for clients, and we have a very loyal and growing client base as a result.

Why do you enjoy your particular field?
Commercial Property work involves bursts of intense activity on files to ensure that the work is completed and often a relatively short turn-around time, which I prefer to files taking months or even years to resolve. I enjoy feeling part of the economic activity in the South West and further afield and being collaborative with clients to achieve their economic aims.

What have been the most interesting developments in your industry during 2016/7?
I think that there are tremendous challenges in the retail sector with the continuing growth of e-commerce and this has knock on impacts into many other areas, of planning and government policy. The challenges that Brexit bring are likely to be interesting!

What’s the biggest misconception people have about your profession?
People think that solicitors are somehow different from normal people. Also that we like to argue and play golf! Most of my colleagues, like me, very ordinary and do our best to work collaboratively to achieve efficient and effective solutions.

Surprise us. . .
I won Full Colours at University as I played for the British University Korfball Squad (more years ago than I care to recall!). I now play for Exeter City Korfball Club.

Thanks Anthony, we are now intrigued to learn more about the world of Korfball!
