Today we talk to Tracey Pearce, office Partner at WBW’s Bovey Tracey office, who specialises in Residential Conveyancing and Buy to Let.
What is your role at WBW?
I am the partner in charge at the Bovey Tracey office. A town that I have lived and worked in at various times over the last 32 years.
What did you want to be when you were young?
I wanted to be a vet as my Grandma had a small holding. A run in with a manky calf’s ear whilst “assisting” the vet put me off!
What was your first full time job?
My first full time job was a Trainee solicitor with Swatton Hughes & Co in Berkhamsted although I always worked in the summer holidays when I was doing my degree. In a pub, cake shop, and as a jewellery shop assistant.
What made you decide to practice property law?
It was the area of law that I had had most experience in, in training. I was not a litigator I discovered.
What do you like the most about the town you work in?
It is busy but still has a community feel to it. I love the walk along the river at lunchtime whether it be a shorter clear your head walk or a longer time out.
What has been the best moment in your career?
Helping a very sweet old lady sell her lease which had next to no years left to run, she thinking she could never move. I have then had a life long involvement with helping the whole family. Part of the attraction of working in a High Street practice, you develop and grow with your clients.
What are your top tips for client’s?
If you can afford it never think of a survey as a waste of time – best to check things for yourself. Some sellers are not always 100% helpful.
Never worry about asking questions of your solicitor if there is something that you do not understand over your sale and purchase.
What has been the most challenging part of your career?
Bringing up my two school age children whilst working pretty much full time, with a husband who worked away a lot. Trying to maintain the balance between “Mum” and property solicitor and not dropping the ball!
What’s the biggest misconception people have about your profession?
That we take long lunches, have short working days and we have no care and compassion.

Hockey! Reading a book that you cannot put down or seeing an amazing view that you have just taken time to climb up and feeling on top of the world.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
Bizarrely I have loved living where I live now particularly through lock down.
Who has been an inspiration for you?
I have met some very special women either clients or friends who at very critical times for me have been inspirational through their patience joie de vivre and huge hearts.
If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
Nelson Mandela

How quickly I can read – pretty useful when I should have been revising and my reading book was too good.
