Happy New Year!
This January edition of ‘Need to Know’ should get 2014 off to a good start with its variety of informative and interesting articles.
We have had a very busy autumn as the economy made people feel more confident about implementing plans they had held back on since 2008.
We have more farm sales and purchases on now that we have had for many years.
We are also dealing with some interesting and novel commercial transactions that have involved a number of skills across the team like Laura Clarke’s sheep loan arrangement. This idea involved a good basic knowledge of sheep farming, some commercial law and various tax considerations which we assembled quickly over a few emails and telephone conversations between team members.
It is good to see the team in action, using each other to cover areas of expertise and to work together to produce answers and ideas. Good legal practice is about so much more than just reciting the law. We aim to use it, to think of ways to solve problems and to help a land business prosper and to move forward.
So, I wish you all well for the year that is just starting. I always feel slightly anxious in a new year until I get a few weeks behind me and the light in the sky at the end of the afternoon and in the morning starts to brighten.
