Most of us need to use a Solicitor at some point during the course of our lives.  This could be for several of reasons, including selling, buying or re-mortgaging your home.  Moving house is said to be one of the most stressful events you will face.  Choosing a local Solicitor, rather than an online lawyer, will help alleviate some of the pressure.

Choosing a local high street Solicitor to act on your behalf will have many benefits:

  • They will have likely been on the high street for many years and have a proven track record of being able to deal with the legal matter in question, along with a good reputation for being trustworthy and efficient.
  • You will be able to meet with the Solicitor handling your case face to face and you will be able to reach them on the phone and talk with them direct. Your Solicitor will not only get to know you but recognise your voice when you call and greet you in person when you make an appointment.
  • Although a high street Solicitor can sometimes be more expensive than an internet based company, they will they have local knowledge of the area – which could prove invaluable during the course of your transaction and more often than not, an internet company will have hidden charges which you will not be informed about until you are nearing the end of the transaction.

It could be as equally beneficial choosing a high street Estate Agent to deal with the sale of your property.  Local lawyers and agents will give you one set price for the work they will carry out on your behalf.  There are no hidden charges.  When people tell me they are putting their house up for sale, looking to purchase a new property or even re-mortgaging, I always recommend using a local agent and a local Solicitor, explaining that whilst the fees may be more expensive than those of the internet companies, they will receive a far better, smoother and personal service.

As a Conveyancer in the property department, I have witnessed on many occasions how very frustrating it can be for both clients and conveyancer dealing with an online agent as it is often difficult to get hold of them.  Using both a local Solicitor and Estate Agent together will see that you have a smoother, less stressful transaction and both will go above and beyond to see your property transaction is completed swiftly.  They will liaise very closely with each other and help smooth any issues that may arise.
