YOUNG rugby player Pete Ingoldsby had a day to remember on his first-team debut for Torquay Athletic – capped off by winning the WBW Solicitors man-of-the-match award.

Ingoldsby was called up at the 11th hour when team-mate Matt Anders pulled out due to a hamstring injury.

The 18-year-old took his opportunity with both hands, scoring one of Torquay’s tries in a 32-16 win over Saltash.

Match sponsors WBW Solicitors took around 50 guests to the game, as well as members of staff from our four offices in South Devon.

As match sponsors it was the guests’ job to select the man of the match and Ingoldsby was the unanimous choice.

Steve Bulman, a partner in WBW Solicitors and a former rugby player with Paignton and Newton Abbot, presented Ingoldsby with the man-of-the-match award.

WBW Solicitors are keen to support rising talent at grass roots sports clubs, which made Ingoldsby a perfect choice as man of the match.

“WBW Solicitors are proud to support local rugby clubs building for their future,” said Mr Bulman.

“By supporting clubs such as the Tics, which sit at the heart of our community, we aim to make the communities we live and work with stronger.”

James Wood, Torquay’s player-coach, said Ingoldsby had come through the club’s youth ranks and made an impressive start to his senior career.

“There’s no question that Pete has a bright future ahead of him and to get man of the match and a try on debut is something he probably only dreamt of,” said Mr Wood.
