Accident Claimant Jailed for False Injury ClaimPrintPdfClose »

A claimant who grossly exaggerated his injuries following a motoring accident and based his claim for compensation on the exaggerated claims has been given a nine-month prison sentence for contempt of court.

The claims were investigated by the defendant, which used covert surveillance techniques that included video footage and accessing photos from Facebook. This proved that the claimant's 'statement of truth' given in evidence to the court was untrue.

The case shows the seriousness of approach that the Courts will take when dealing with litigants who give false evidence and the lengths insurers will go to to avoid claims they believe to be exaggerated.
